July, 2016 - LEIXOES, PORTUGAL

No wind.  Motor sailed all day.  Swell reduced to almost nothing.  Could clearly see the dolphins as they played alongside.  A mother and baby stayed with us for a long time.

Arrived mid pm and were directed to a spot in the tight marina.  Tried to back into slip.  No go.  Tried a spot on the other side of the camber.  No go.  Ended up in the original slip, but nose in.  Kept the dock staff running and the other boaters amused, except maybe for the owners of the boats close to our maneuvering.

A small, friendly, and reasonably priced marina, close to great beach, public transportation and restaurants.  The one downside is it is in the middle of a large industrial port, so care is needed to avoid large vessels when in the outer harbor.

Came for 2 days, stayed 5, including a day trip to Porto, via bus (see next post).

One highlight was our lunch for 2 that cost only 17 Euros ($25 CDN), including a half chicken, sausages, rice, beans, vegetables, fries, bread, half liter of beer and 700 ml of red wine.  We waddled back to the boat for a long siesta to recover.

Our last day was foggy, so we did boat chores, including cleaning the deck, fenders and boat interior.  It is not all play.

The beach, with the harbor/marina in the background.
